On March 3, 2026, the Decree amending Article 123, Section A of the Mexican Constitution was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (Diario Oficial de la Federación), establishing the progressive reduction of the standard workweek in Mexico. The reform entered into force on March 4, 2026.
This reform is part of broader changes to the Mexican labor framework aimed at improving the balance between work, rest, and the personal life of employees.
Under the reform, the standard workweek will be reduced to 40 hours, in accordance with the terms to be established by secondary legislation.
The reduction will be implemented gradually from January 1, 2027, through 2030, as follows:

Parallel Considerations:
The Congress of the Union will enact the necessary amendments to secondary legislation within 90 days following the publication of the reform.
