On September 17, 2026, the Ministry of Economy, through the Undersecretariat for Industry and Trade, announced the update of the Mexico Steel Trade Monitor (MoCA-MX), as well as the launch of the new Mexico Aluminum Trade Monitor (MoCAL-MX).
Both tools are available for consultation as of September 18, 2026, and are intended to strengthen transparency, traceability and analysis of trade flows involving steel and aluminum products in Mexico.
The updated MoCA-MX incorporates information related to the country of melt and cast of steel, while the new MoCAL-MX allows users to consult information on foreign trade in aluminum products, including data related to the country of smelt and cast, thereby expanding the information available to analyze import and export flows in both sectors.
The platform is intended to improve transparency and traceability, as well as facilitate the analysis of steel and aluminum trade in Mexico. For this purpose, it integrates information from official sources and allows users to consult, among other elements, imports, exports, countries of origin and destination, traded volumes and trade trends.
In terms of coverage, the portal includes 6 categories and 58 steel products, as well as 8 categories and 15 aluminum products. For consultation purposes, the corresponding catalogs organize this universe into product groups, linked to the tariff classifications and NICO codes included within each category.
The information contained in the monitors will be updated monthly, subject to the availability of official information, and may reflect two-month lag due to the data validation process.
The update of both monitors provides additional tools for monitoring steel and aluminum trade flows in Mexico, particularly with respect to identifying the origin of melting, casting and smelting processes.
From a compliance perspective, the available information may be used as a complementary tool for analyzing trends, countries of origin, and import and export behavior in these sectors. However, it should be noted that the information published in the monitors is for informational and statistical purposes only, and therefore its consultation does not replace compliance with the non-tariff regulations and restrictions applicable to each transaction.
Companies engaged in the import or export of steel and aluminum products are advised to become familiar with the new functionalities of the platform and to use the available information as a complementary tool to strengthen their internal traceability and analysis processes.
Likewise, for transactions subject to Automatic Import Notices for Steel Products (AAIPS) or Automatic Import Notices for Aluminum Products (AAIPA), it is recommended to maintain controls that allow companies to properly support and validate information related to the origin of the goods and their melting, casting or smelting processes, as applicable.
